This nature video of Painted Buntings and Blue Grosbeaks was taken in the Lake Marion area of South Carolina. Painted Buntings reside in fields with wooded boundaries through spring and summer in the Lake Marion area.

Painted Buntings are a small bird and I found them very hard to film. They are not very cooperative, and unless a feeder is involved, are somewhat shy. While walking fields I would occasionally flush some, at which point they fly straight to the border trees and disappear in the foliage. This footage was taken in the wild without the use of feeders. If you have the opportunity, I would suggest locating a feeder where they regularly visit. That's what I plan to do next time ... and bring a very long lens along.
